The China Unicom IoT & Wanxiang Blockchain Joint Innovation Center was officially established. China Unicom IoT, WanXiang Blockchain, Quectel, Fibocom, Juzix and aitos.io have become founding members of this new innovation Center.
On June 28 2019 in Nanjing, China, China Unicom IoT and WanXiang Blockchain officially commenced their activities for joint IoT + Blockchain cross-border cooperation for the integration of resources in the fields of IoT and blockchain, and to actively build key application areas of IoT + Blockchain. These application areas included such sectors as “Industry 4.0”, “Smart Cities”, “Supply chain finance”, “New retail”, “Smart Homes”. These and other vertical industries are being targeted to help achieve more flexible, efficient and secure development and management, in order to actively explore the application of scenes and closed business models, as well as prepare for the anticipated burst of mass adoption and application of blockchains in the 5G IoT era.
On June 28th China Unicom IoT and WanXiang Blockchain jointly launched the unveiling ceremony and kick-off meeting of the IoT + Blockchain Joint Innovation Center in Nanjing. At the meeting, the pioneering members, including China Unicom IoT, WanXiang Blockchain and the Joint Innovation Center signed a joint innovation project cooperation agreement, which marked the formal establishment of the China Unicom and WanXiang Blockchain IoT + Blockchain Joint Innovation Center. This is the first project launch at Unicom IoT Innovation Acceleration Center, and it is also the first time that WanXiang Blockchain has cooperated to build a joint innovation center for the Internet of Things + Blockchain. China Unicom IoT, WanXiang Blockchain, Juzix, aitos.io, Quectel and Fibocom jointly attended the unveiling ceremony.
In early 2019, China witnessed the launch of its first full 5G wireless network technology deployment. With the full commercialization of 5G technology, the connected life and production scenarios of all things are rapidly becoming a fusion of the digital world and the physical world, greatly pushing the global digital economy into the fast lane. According to recent GSMA reports, as of 2025, the number of global IoT connections will reach 25.2 billion. In recent years, with the vigorous development of the “Internet of Things”, IoT devices have grown geometrically. This provides a great opportunity for cross-border cooperation between WanXiang Blockchain and China Unicom’s IoT. By strengthening the deployment of blockchain in all aspects of the Internet of Things, we can jointly enhance data security and build a trusted foundation for a smart society.
At this signing ceremony, China Unicom IoT, WanXiang Blockchain, Fibocom, Quectel, Juzix and aitos.io jointly participated in the global premiere of 5G blockchain module products, and released IoT modules including Platforms, SDKs, and other roadmaps for pre-commercial products, empowering vertical industries to implement blockchain application development and model innovation based on cellular IoT platforms.

Jointly addressing the attending audience with his own speech was Mr. Chen Xiaotian, General Manager of China Unicom IoT, who said that China Unicom IoT is very happy to work with WanXiang Blockchain, which is an important partner of China Unicom in the field of Blockchain. He further added, the ability building an ecosystem of the Internet of Things + blockchain will open the financial links of the Internet of Things and accelerate the 5G business positioning. This is all good for the continued advancement of the “platform +” ecosystem” strategy of the Internet of Things, and will lead to a bright new digital future.
