On December 15th, the Annual Climate Fintech Summit 2022 was held in Shanghai. The Summit, co-organized by New Energy Nexus China and Impact Hub Shanghai, invited representatives from financial institutions and the fintech industry to discuss innovative applications of fintech in addressing climate change. How to rely on big data, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, Blockchain, Internet of Things, and other technological means to innovate and upgrade green finance business, explore feasible climate fintech business model and future development opportunities.
Leo Lin, CEO of autos.io, was invited to attend the summit and deliver the keynote speech “IoT plus Blockchain to facilitate Trusted Green Carbon Digital Infrastructure”.
“Today we are experiencing the fourth Industrial revolution, Industrial Revolution 4.0, which is led by technologies such as the Internet of Things, blockchain, big data, and artificial intelligence,” he said in his speech. What characterizes this is the proliferation of massive amounts of data. In particular, The number of connections among things exceeds the number of connections between humans. The service objects and scenes of digital fintech are more the scenes of virtual and real combination oriented to the Internet of everything, and even the exploration of carbon-neutral cooperation of the whole society in the metaverse in the future.
One of the key pain points of the carbon-neutral market is that it is fragmented and lacks universal digital empowerment. Carbon footprint measurement is inseparable from different smart energy terminals. Considering that these devices are scattered around the world, how to report in a unified format, transmit and store these data efficiently, and implement reliable and trusted data sharing among multiple stakeholders, it is necessary to build a trusted digital infrastructure. Such a credible green carbon digital infrastructure can track carbon data generated by massive IoT terminals throughout the whole lifecycle and generate real-time trusted MRV reports based on a unified methodology, ensuring clear ownership of carbon data for enterprises and individuals. On the trusted green carbon digital base, all kinds of carbon data are opened and exchanged to third parties (regulatory, financial, auditing, entrusted agents, consulting companies, etc.), so that more third parties can subscribe to valuable green data. The key here is to start from the source of IoT devices to achieve reliable tracking of the supply chain and value chain at each stage. Credible data opening and exchange provide risk-control basis for green credit, green bonds, green insurance, and other climate financial products, introduce market incentive mechanisms to encourage individuals and enterprises to participate in carbon neutrality, and help the practical implementation of the decarbonization goal.
BoAT blockchain application framework has been integrated with Microsoft Azure Sphere IoT security capabilities, enabling IoT equipment data security on the cloud and trust on the chain. Through the blockchain transformation of smart energy terminals, the BoAT blockchain application framework is implanted into chips and modules to help these terminals to facilitate the trusted connection of data from the source. The data is hashed, and the unique private key of the chipset is used for the cryptographic signature, which forms the on-chain certificate result that the third party can verify, and provide trust M (measurement) R (report) V (verification) in the carbon trading market.
