2021 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of progressive relations between China and ASEAN members. Chinese President Xi Jin-Ping helped to guide and cultivate this broad-minded direction during a telephone call with Singapore Prime Minister Mr. Lee Hsien-Loong. China & Singapore’s economies, social development, and bilateral relations are improving historically and stretching farther upstream to magnify guidelines for a digital economy and green sustainable developmental future. Significant highlights include cross-border and supply chain interconnections, as well as cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, smart cities, and climate change. These key drivers will help promote continuous improvements, further attesting to the quality and level of resilient cooperation between both countries. It signals a green light in the cooperative and collaborative direction for Shenzhen-Singapore cooperation.
The successful cooperation between Singapore and Shenzhen is not only an example of the ever-closer cooperation between many Chinese cities and Singapore, but also a foreseeable choice, mutually benefiting both countries. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Singapore-China (Shenzhen) Smart City Initiative (SCI) between Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) and the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government was signed on October 15th , 2019 during the Singapore-China Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) meeting in the presence of Chinese Vice Premier Han Zheng and Singaporean DPM Heng Swee Keat. Over the past two years of development efforts, Shenzhen and Singapore have promoted robust smart city cooperation efforts meticulously based on the MOU. The initial engagement leading up to today’s success started way back in June 2020. The first meeting of the executive committee was hosted by Shenzhen City and held online via video conference call, resulting in the first batch of 8 “Memorandums of Understanding on cooperation projects being signed. These projects ranged from involving electronic trade, mutual recognition of digital identities, exchange and training of scientific and technological talents, innovation and entrepreneurship, Cross-border arbitration.
As these collaboration efforts were culminating, the 2nd Singapore–China (Shenzhen) Smart City Initiative Joint Implementation Committee Meeting was being held during the morning of October 18th, in both Shenzhen & Singapore via an online video conference call. At this meeting, Shenzhen and Singapore signed four cooperation projects, including electronic invoices, 5G, IoT and Blockchain Solutions Platform , Robotics Development, Smart agriculture cooperation; and Digital Twin-enabled Solutions . It was mentioned that the designated cooperation projects are based on the steady progress leading up to the first batch of cooperation projects, combined with the positive direction of global economic development and the industrial advantages of Shenzhen and Singapore. Expectations are high to inject new vitality for bilateral cooperation and foster new opportunities.
At the signing ceremonies, Mr, Leo Lin, CEO of aitos.io, and Mr. Howie Lau, President of NCS jointly signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 5G, IoT and Blockchain Solutions Platform.
