Minister Gan highlighted the significance of the Punggol Digital District (PDD), which is the first local business district to fully integrate physical infrastructure and smart technologies. Occupying 50 hectares and masterplanned and developed by JTC, PDD is expected to generate 28,000 job opportunities for Punggol residents and those in the north-east region. PDD aims to attract digital leaders in rapidly growing technology sectors such as cybersecurity, Blockchain & Fintech, Robotics & Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and Smart Living. It is positioned as the gateway for digital tech companies to launch into the region. As an integral part of Singapore’s long-term economic growth strategy, PDD serves as an innovative model for sustainable development, with phased construction and opening planned to commence in 2024.

This event marks the first offline gathering since the COVID-19 pandemic, where Minister Gan announced the new businesses setting up in PDD, including United Overseas Bank (UOB) and Target Media Culcreative (TMCC), as well as local systems integrator Delteq. Currently, the high-tech companies located in the park primarily focus on advanced manufacturing, emphasizing advanced technologies, urban innovation, and sustainability. Through collaborations with institutions like the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), they are jointly building PDD’s digital ecosystem, promoting mutual advancement in industry, academia, and training. PDD emphasizes sustainable development by employing intelligent innovations to reduce carbon emissions and enhance energy efficiency. Examples include the implementation of smart energy networks for real-time management of the entire area and the production of distributed renewable energy, showcasing Singapore’s commitment to environmental protection.

During the event, JTC and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) announced the “PDD Living Lab” collaboration program, which aims to foster better cooperation among businesses, academia, and other relevant stakeholders within PDD. As part of this program, Wanxiang Blockchain and its partner aitos.io are collaborating with SIT to develop a decentralized identity system using blockchain technology for SIT’s virtual campus, enabling seamless access to different campuses for faculty and students. At the event, aitos.io’s founder and CEO, Leo Lin, vividly demonstrated the BoAT Trusted Carbon Data Management solution to Minister Gan’s visiting delegation, showcasing the latest technological achievements in applying the Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain technology to trustworthy carbon data measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV).

aitos.io’s technical team is collaborating with SIT to explore the integration of the BoAT blockchain application framework into the campus’s rooftop photovoltaic system. This integration aims to achieve real-time and trustworthy carbon data collection and upload relevant trusted data to the blockchain platform for credible carbon footprint certification. This will assist the Singapore government, PDD Digital Park, and other third parties concerned with sustainable development in managing, tracking, and utilizing carbon data throughout its lifecycle. The solution will enable the Singapore government, businesses, and city residents to have a clear understanding of the entire park’s carbon footprint. By relying on trustworthy carbon data, they can work towards achieving environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals, creating an inclusive and sustainable environment.
