In response to the growing demand for data security in the blockchain and IoT fields, aitos.io recently participated in the collaborative whitepaper titled ‘Trusted RISC-V Architecture in Blockchain Infrastructure.’ Supported by chip manufacturers, device suppliers, and blockchain service providers, this whitepaper aims to address blockchain-friendly security requirements and architectural recommendations for RISC-V, proposing enhanced data protection through a trusted architecture.

The objectives of the whitepaper cover the following key areas:

• Defining security requirements for RISC-V tailored to blockchain applications.

• Proposing a trusted architecture of RISC-V chips suitable for blockchain.

• Reducing the cost and complexity of security measures through reference designs.

  • Achieving a better balance between security and cost in the field of IoT and blockchain integration innovation.

An important contribution highlighted in the whitepaper is the categorization of various cryptographic algorithms required for blockchain infrastructure, providing guidance for their implementation in hardware chips. These algorithms include Hash Algorithm, Digital Signature Algorithm, Encryption Algorithm and more. These algorithms ensure data integrity, data verification, and protection of sensitive information.

The whitepaper also emphasizes the importance of meeting security requirements such as anti-physical attack mechanism, secure channel, and application management. It presents solutions by integrating various security technologies, emphasizing the use of ROT(root of trust), TEE (trusted execution environments), integrated secure elements (iSE), physical unclonable functions (PUF), and other technologies to provide a protective layer for chips, ensuring the integrity of the system and user data.

By effectively integrating security architecture and cryptographic algorithms into chip design, the security and system performance of both chips and software will be significantly enhanced. This will protect the blockchain’s private keys and sensitive information in cryptographic computations, ultimately increasing the value of blockchain applications.

aitos.io’s involvement in the development of the RISC-V whitepaper underscores the company’s dedication to advancing data security in the realm of blockchain and IoT. CEO Leo Lin explained, “Since the establishment of the RISC-V Blockchain SIG in 2021, aitos.io has introduced the open-source version of BoAT-V, specifically tailored for RISC-V. The RISC-V ecosystem, being oriented towards development, is well-suited for the fragmented IoT landscape. Our ‘BoAT (Blockchain of AI Things)’ serves as a conduit, facilitating the secure transportation of valuable data from traditional IoT companies to the blockchain.”

Over the past few years, aitos.io has remained steadfast in its collaboration with partners within the RISC-V community, constantly delving into the exploration of data value. The release of this whitepaper marks a significant milestone in establishing a RISC-based open-source business system. Looking ahead, aitos.io will continue to empower various blockchain, chip, module, and other related companies within the RISC-V ecosystem, fostering the exchange of technical innovations in the domains of IoT and blockchain. This collaborative effort will enable the attainment of better synergies between security and cost for RISC-V chips, propelling the continuous implementation of business solutions.
